His new album Revamped is out today, and to celebrate, we locked down the tech-funk pioneer for a speedy little Q&A

Where are you now and what are you doing?

I’m at home in the studio trying to balance more things than I rightfully have the mindpower or arms to balance and failing a little on all aspects given the allure of the snow that’s shining like a beacon outside the window.

What was the best gig you played in the last six months?

Burning Man on Saturday night was very very special as was Breakfest in Perth, although I probably enjoyed New Year’s Eve at Ambar in Perth more because I was surrounded by friends and wasn’t in the least bit nervous.

What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done in a DJ booth?

I was playing in Portugal a while back and it wasn’t the best of nights but I tried to pull off some daft rave shapes having caught the promoter’s eye, lost my balance, staggered backwards, fell down off the raised platform twisting my ankle, and then still off balance fell backwards through the side door of the club and into the corridor where a bouncer grabbed me before I went any further and dropped me in the street.

What are the top three tracks in your record box right now?

Zodiac Cartel – Sweet Control (unreleased remix), Elite Force & Various – M.A.D., The Loops of Fury – SOAP (Peo de Pitte mix).

Complete the sentence: "women respond to ..."

There’s nothing worse than second-guessing a woman …

What tune would you never play, no matter how desperate?

That doesn’t really make sense. If I’d never play it, I’d never carry it with me so I’d never be able to reach for it if I was desperate!

If you could warm up for any DJ in the world, who would it be, and why?

Kevin (Fine Cut Bodies). He always warms up for me and I think I owe him.

The crowd is flagging and you need an emergency tune to stop them going to the bar. What would it be?

Smack My Bitch Up (Elite Force Re-Fix)

Vinyl or CD decks?

CD

Stone cold sober or elegantly wasted?

I’m not a great fan of being wasted. It always comes with a price, so I’m happy to dabble but not at the expense of the following day’s pain.

Plump DJs or Stanton Warriors?

Are you going to ask me what colour socks I’m wearing next?

What would you have been doing now if you had not been answering thisisbreaks.com's questions?

Cracking on with my daily juggling act. The mainframe is calling my name right now though … time to get wit' some beats.

Where do you see yourself in six months time?

Back country skiing with a renegade heli-ski operation somewhere in the badlands of South America. I’ll be unkempt, non-contactable, bearded and bent out of shape on a peyote high I got from a shaman in late April in exchange for all my musical equipment and ideas. The only things that will remain as a living legacy will be the website at www.eliteforcemusic.com and some shaky youtube footage taken by passing nomads who recognised my face from an old Lunatic Calm video.

• Elite Force's Revamped album, a collection of his own versions of some of the biggest tunes of the last few years, is out today on Beatport, or via the U&A website, where we're told there are loads of extra goodies for the truly discerning geekboy or girl.

Possibly the most eccentric and friendly dj, producer and re-fixer to grace the breaks scene. Never has there been such a frank interview. Big ups EF.
