It's day two of our exclusive track by track preview of the new album from breakbeat overlord
Future Funk Squad, aka Glen Nichols. And rather fittingly, we've got two more songs for you: an out and out floorfiller which looks set to be the next single (thisisbreaks.com recently got our hands on an extended version and it's going to be the tune of the Autumn, we reckon), and a more introspective moment. That's the thing about Disorders of Skill: unlike most dance music albums it works as a home listening experience as well as in the club. We can't recommend enough that you get your hands on a copy when it's released next week. And in the meantime, make sure you check back here tomorrow for two more tracks. Over to Glen to describe today's gruesome twosome ...
Track three: Blow featuring Mojo
Glen writes: The first vocal track on the album and featuring the vocal talents of Mojo (who guested on my previous singles Audio Damage and Sorcerary). This track started out as something completely different and definitely went through a few incarnations. At one point it was gonna be scrapped completely but then I think Mojo flipped around some lyrics and the delivery slightly and the chorus just gelled. I'm really pleased with how it came out and kinda see it as a modern day version of Audio Damage really, just a bit more bouncy and maybe less dark.
Track four: Fear
Glen writes: This is an interlude kinda thing, the first track where the tempo drops below 130. On this album I not only wanted all the tracks to be breakbeat but I also wanted them to be between 125 and 140 bpm. Unfortunately this one breaks up the rule but I think it flows nicely after Blow and the previous two bangers to calm things down a little. The spoken work is actually Liz Melody reading an exert from a book all about the mind and how we can overcome our fear etc so it made sense to call it Fear. I see this track as a kind of advert/soundtrack kinda thing, not really a club moment but I guess variety is the spice of life.
