Left of centre: Phrakture: the face of future prog-breaks

This week expert Future Breaks selector Johan Soh puts the spotlight on one of the progressive scene’s brightest stars, a young Toronto based producer with more than a few outstanding tunes under his belt

I will spare you all the ”coming of age” metaphors and try not to point out how appropriate it is that his finest moment yet is on Morphosis records. Phrakture really is just a kid, but a kid who has already managed to release more excellent tunes than many adult artists. Quite a few of his earlier releases reeked of his unabashed love for BT, but the Impulsified EP on Morphosis is really impressive for someone who has followed his short but fruitful career as an artist. Impulsified is a great progressive breaks track, but it’s on the flip that his progress as an artist starts to show. In A Pure State effortlessly blends progressive house and breaks elements into something that starts to sound distinctly Phrakture.

For progressive breaks fans there is plenty more stuff to check out, like his remix of Duane Barry’s Searching The Stars, which I featured earlier on this blog. It will be interesting to say the least to see what else this talented 16 year old Canadian can accomplish before he is legally allowed into clubs.
