AWE Soundsystem returns with his latest delivery of news and views from the fast-growing mid-tempo funky breaks scene

Hey all and a very happy new 2010 to ya. Gotta say mine was messier than a blind octopus trying to whip up an omelette during Noel's house party. Fortunately my hands have now just about stopped shaking long enough for me to type this week's missive.
If the predictions are true and nufunk does become massive this year then Featurecast, AKA South Coast based Lee Mintram, will be one of the main players. He's already been doin' his thang with some style for several years, and has notched up chart topping releases on key labels like
Bombstrikes,
Goodgroove,
Catskills and
Funk Weapons, as well as high profile remixes for the likes of
All Good Funk Alliance,
Fort Knox Five and
Dr Rubberfunk.
DJ Yoda and
Krafty Kuts are big fans, and he's spun all over the world. Basically, he's pretty fucking great!
We're not ones to just spout off our opinions without evidence to back it up, however, so as per usual here are some goodies to help you make your own minds up. And boy are they good.
First up is a free track that showcases Featurecast's production skills to great effect. If you managed to grab the A Skillz mix that was on the blog previously then you would have heard a blistering re-rub of the TC - Where's My Money (Caspa Remix) track that everyone and their pet gimp has been remixing. This is by far my favourite version and is gonna be in all of my sets for a long time to come. It starts off in a hip-hop stylee before shifting up to dubstep and back down to hip-hop again. If you're a DJ and you play this, and it doesn't smash the arse out of your dancefloor, then you've obviously blagged a gig at a wake. It's phatness personified, and it goes like
THIS.
Next up is a Featurecast mix, made up of mostly original tracks and his own remixes / re-edits, blended to sheer perfection. Oh, and it has loads of awesome scratching over the top for good measure. It goes from hip-hop / nufunk, through breaks, dubstep and up to drum 'n' bass, whilst keeping it funky throughout, and is one of those mixes that'll leave you grinning from ear to ear. Check it out
HERE and be sure to tell your friends 'cos this needs to be heard by everybody.
